He was born about 1791 in Amsterdam, Holland. At the age of 8, he was taken by this father, who was a seaman, on a voyage to Philadelphia. On his voyage out, his father died, and for reasons unknown, he was left in Philadelphia and was taken in by a physician, who kept him until a suitable place was provided. He was soon placed with a Quaker on a farm near the city. In 1805 he moved to Guernsey,Ohio. In 1839 he moved to Henry County Iowa. He was married 3, possibly 4, times. He had a total of 16 children. 11 of which were with his 2nd wife, Alice Cochran. He died in Salem, Iowa in 1867...probably from exhaustion! hee!
Would appreciate info on his parents. I have the names of 15 of the children, but I need their birthdates. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
