Although not a family member, I have done extensive research on the Abler family which settled in the Holy Land Area of Wisconsin - Mt. Calvary. There is a variant spelling of the name Abeler, and if my memory serves me correctly, I did find the connection between the two families.

One of the Abler's mentioned to me some time ago that he had heard that Steve Allen of TV fame is originally an Abler, but I have never been able to substantiate that.
