May 30, 1908, State of Tn, county of Amderson, Coal Creek Tn, Personally come before me... Bryson Rutherford who made oath....he is the grandson of John Abels (Ables) and Betsy Abels, Cherokee Indians.....That they came to Anderson Co. about 1835/1836 and lived here until about 1851, then they left here.{the family is on the census 1850, Anderson co. Tn, 1860, Roane co, Tn.}
He thinks they came from North Carolina.Included with this application is a statement from 84 year old Sarah Rutherford, who ackowledges that she knew the Ables, their famlies and children and that although they lived as free, white, they were indian and looked it. She also states Brice (Brison) looks Indian.

.
Brice Rutherford is my ggreatgrandfather. The children of John B1799 and Betsy B1806 Able were Polly, ca1830, Sarah, b1828, married William Rutherford,(William is my line, father of Brice) Easter B1829, married Joshua Rutherford, Frank William B1832, Dave John, B1834, Creasy C., B1836, Catherine B1838 Dorcas B1842, Elizabeth B1846, and (maybe) Margaret T.
.
I have sent for the application of Malvina and William M. Able, to see if either tie into my family listed here.
.
Brice's application was denied for various reasons, but he died (1908) before the notification.
