Hello Anthony, I neglected to look in my Holy Trinity (Trinidad, CO) record of early baptisms for the DeAguero surname. In your message on the GenForum ABEYTA board you mentioned that you are interested in knowing when/how the DeAguero family came to Trinidad. I can't answer that question directly, but the earliest baptismal records for the Catholic parish in Trinidad (1866-1870) tell you something. Hold on to the information in this message, because I'd guess that eventually you will find connection to these families with your DeAguero family. The DeAguero surname is listed in these records. I got them from the extraction done by Eugene Torres, DVM for the Denver Founding Chapter of the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America (GSHA). The following information tells you that the DeAguero family of child-bearing years was in southern Colorado, (Las Animas County & Huerfano County) and baptized children at Holy Trinity as early as 1868. The first parish priest there (Fr. Munnecom, a priest from the Netherlands, who was in the Mora, [NM] Valley before coming to Trinidad, CO) baptized the first child in that parish in 1866 when the parish was established. One of these families is likely ancestor to your DeAguero family in Trinidad. Hope this helps as you get farther along in your research. Deaguero, Asencion Maria. b. 27 May 1868; bapt. 29 May 1868. (Vol. 1, p. 185). d/o Pedro Deaguero & Juana Maria Velasquez. Godparents: Juan Domingo Romero & Juana Nepomecena Velasquez. Deguero, Benito Jose. b.12 Jan 1868; bapt. 20 Mar 1868. (Vol. 1, p. 178). s/o Cleto (?) Rafael Deaguero (of Huerfano) & Feliciana Maria Monchago (sic). Godparents: Mateo Jose Sierra & Antonia Maria Gonzales. Deaguero, Nabor Jose (4 mos and 20 days old); bapt 27 May 1869 (Vol. 1, p. 219). s/o Rafeal Jose Deaguer (of Huerfano) & Feliciana Maria Moncada (sic). Godparents: Marclio (sic) Escobedo & Ventura Maria Lovato. Deaguero, Vicenta Maria. bapt. 20 Nov 1869. (Vol. 1, p. 233) d/o Lljuan (sic) Jose Deaguero & Guadalupe Gomez. Godparents: Nicolas Deaguero & Vicenta Maria Mestas. These baptismal records include a note from Dr. Torres: "Many Deagueros were from Huerfano). My note: Huerfano County includes Walsenburg. It is the adjacent county to Las Animas County which includes Trinidad. There were ten DeAguero men marrying in Holy Trinity parish in the period 1869-1881. The surname is sometimes spelled "DeArguero" in those records. There are also four De Aguero women (again, spelled "DeArguero" in these parish records) marrying in the period 1868-1872. These records indicate that marriage-age family members were there in Trinidad as early as 1869. I'd guess that one or more of these families are related to your DeAguero family. As you find more about the family and the Trinidad connection, let me know. I may be able to help you more directly. But, at least this lets you know how early the family surname appears in Trinidad, CO. If your grandfather, Antonio DeAguero, was born in 1905 in Trinidad, it is likely that the family migrated from Mora, New Mexico, possibly connected through the parish priest that came from Mora to Trinidad. I know that one of my ancestors came to Trinidad that way, through Padre Munnecom who had been his teacher at a school the priest conducted in Mora, NM. Many of the northern Nuevomexicanos migrated to Colorado after the mid-1800s, so this would fit historically with your DeAguero family since Donaciano was born in 1871 in Mora and his son Antonio was born in Trinidad in 1905 The Mora (1855-1860) baptismal records have 3 entries for the DeAguero surname. Again, I'd guess that these names will figure eventually in your family records. The baptized children are named -- € Felipe. bapt. 1856, s/o Jose Aguero (sic) & Maria Guadalupe Gomis (sic) and the godparents are Felipe DeAguero & Maria Puala Garcia; Pedro, and Antonio. € Maria Vitoria. bapt. 1857, d/o Pedro DeAguero & Juana Belasques and the godparents were Bernardo Montoya & Maria Perfeta (sic) Trujillo. My note: This family shows up in the Holy Trinity, Trinidad, CO records in later years. € Maria de Jesus. bapt. 1857, d/o Antonio DeAguero & Maria Teodora Trujillo and teh godparents were Macedonio Trujillo and maria Guadalupe Trujillo. I attempted to send this lengthy message to you directly but it was returned to me so I guess the e-mail address listed for you on the GenForum is not current. Sincerely, Gloria Cordova Los Alamos, NM CordovaG@aol.com
