I cannot be absolutely sure that this information is the absolute truth - but it is something that I remember from my childhood in New Mexico and my memories of my favorite grandfathr, Miguel Abeyta. I was told by my mother and her sisters that my grandfather owned several sheep ranches with Navajo families that lived on those ranches managing the sheep. My grandfather was very close to the people who worked for him, treating them often like family members and in one particular case gave one of the families the property
they were managing. I also understood that one of the families adopted his name Abeyta. This latter case could have been in Colorado or New Mexico. I have been researching my quiet grandfather for the last 2-1/2 years
and am not able to say that the above is correct - but I would like to keep in touch with you as my tales become facts - then we could compare notes. You can reach me at <pblumenthal@earthlink.net>. Where are you located? His operating location was Santa Fe but travelled around the state because of the sheep. For many years I have had an interest in Navajo Indian weaving...it was always a desire
as a child..and sometime back met a lovely Navajo who gave me some lessons in the beautiful art. At present would love to do it again and probably will when my personal load goes down a little. Best wishes.
