As far as I know the history goes something like this:
We share great, great, great grandparents John Abernethy (abt 1817 Glasgow - 1890 NSW) and Anna Hamilton (Died Glasgow 1876). They married in Glasgow in 1851. I believe that the father followed his son to NSW after his wife died.
Their surviving children were Robert (my great, great grandfather (1852 - 1891), Catherine (M Fulton)(1858-96), Anna (M Clark(e))(1860-1945)(your great, great grandmother?)
There was also Jessie (Gibson - 1862 - ?) and John (1867-1928 - M Emily Gates).
Robert Abernethy (my great great grandfather) married Agnes Livingstone in Tamworth in 1882 (just after they emigrated from Scotland).
My Grandfather, John HAMILTON Abernethy was born in 1883 and died in 1938 on the job - he was a primary school teacher finishing up as Principal at Tuggerah. He married a redhead, Ellen McGill in 1910 and she died in 1979.
He had a brother Andrew Livingston Abernethy. I knew well his daughter Agnes (my Aunt Ness) who died about 2000 - I was an executor of her estate.
My own father was Robert Neil Abernethy who married Beryl Jean Thorsby (Mum is still alive but has Alzheimers). Dad died in 1972, the year Duncan Robert Abernethy was born. Naming my firstborn Duncan (Robert) broke the John, Robert, John, Robert, John nexus that extended from our great, great great Grandfather.
I married a Sandra Raie Butler in 1970 and we divorced in 2001. I have two sons, Duncan Robert who married Wendy Russell, and Laird Stuart. I am now married to Kathleen Frances (nee McDonald).
Most of dad's side of the family were Presbyterian though my own grandmother was Roman Catholic. I also remember that my grandfather's brother Andrew either became Catholic or allowed his daughter to be brought up Catholic as my Auntie Ness was a devout Catholic.
