Early Abernethys in America
The three earliest representatives of the Abernethys or Abernathys to be found in colonies of the former British Empire (now the United States of America) are:
1652 Robert Ebernethell[Abernethy/Abernathy], Charles City County, VA (src: headright grant of Robert West, Library of VA, online images)
1657 Andrew Abernath[Abernethy/Abernathy], Northampton County, VA (src: headright grant of Thomas Teague, Library of VA, online images)
1670 William Evenatha[Abernethy], Wallingford, New Haven County, CT (src: History of Wallingford, CT, C.H.S.Davis, Meriden, CT 1870, FHL Film #481066)
Many descendants of Robert and William are known and documented. No one has yet traced their lineage back to Andrew, but there are several possibilities, including the Thomas Abernethy-Electra Smith Branch and the Charles & Elizabeth Bernethy Branch, a representative of both having shown very close relatedness to the Y-DNA profile defined by documented, direct-line, living descendants of Robert and William and other early colonial branch founders lacking paper documentation connecting them to any of these early Abernethy/Abernathy founders.
