The Granville County NC tax lists from the book "Granville County North Carolina Tax Lists 1747-1759" abstracted by Timothy W. Rackley, has: year 1752 Robert Abernathy 2 ( these are titheables ) " 1753 Robert Abernathy 1 & 2 negroes " 1755 Robert Abernathy & son Robert and negroes Adam, Will, Sue & Peter " 1757 Robert Abernathy 1 " 1757 James Abernathy 4 and negroes Adam, Will & Sue I take it that James Abernathy who married Elizabeth Cox has just turned 16 years old in 1757 and is the son of the Robert just above him. The names on these tax lists are one right after the other and I am trying to find the original tax lists, somewhere in NC I guess. There is a Robert Abernathy will in Lincoln County, NC, who leaves negroes Will & Sue I believe to one of his heirs. I think this 1757 Robert Abernathy is also the father of Lucy Abernathy who married Vincent Cox. Vincent Cox and sister Elizabeth Cox were the children of George Cox and Elinor Lamkin or Lambkin. Am I 100% sure of this. No, close. That is the James Abernathy who married Elizabeth Cox. This area of Granville County, NC, became Bute County, and then Warren County. Several land records exit for these Abernathys in Bute County records which I have seen some of them, one record has Robert and his wife Sarah Ann (maybe Nichols) and James Abernathy. James Abernathy lived in now Warren County, then in Bute County north east of what is now Norlina, NC, along Smith Creek if you have a map. James Abernathy bought 200 acres of land in 1778 from Moses Bonner & wife Charity (her name was JONES) of Tryon County on west bank of Catawba River witnesses were Vincent Cox and John Abernathy. I have no more time now except I have the "widow Patty" of the BISSELL place figured out in another message. Charlie Abernathy Notify Administrator about this message?
