It is difficult pulling information from different posts. It takes careful reading and if one agrees with you, and I think I do, followed by slowly backtracking and erasing relationships and moving people. I had some of the relationships you say are erroneous. Your arguments and proof looks valid. I want to get it right and understand it so I am not confused later by people who continue to pull the wrong info from other trees.

The first post on James Abercrombie shows he is son of John Joseph Abercrombie and Ann Kellett. That is what I had on my tree. (That was not from YOU).

But then when I read down other posts, YOU indicate he is in fact a child of John's brother, James.

You also state that James (1740-1819) married twice: first being 1771 Elizaabeth Sherrill, then Elizabeth McDaniel in 1799. Then below, you say he was married 3 times, the first wife being Hannah Pickard, and the mother of James Abercrombie DOB 1765. So, perhaps we just move Hannah to the top of that list of 3, not two? Right? (What was your point about "during this period it would be highly unusual that a man would have never been married until he was 31 years of age". What did that mean? Is that why you put Hannah Pickard at #1 marriage?)

Then I had Mary Ann Leigh as wife of James 1765 and somebody else asked why you are sure its Mary Ann Beck vs. Leigh, and I'm not sure I understood the answer to that. (Wondering where Leigh came from if it is wrong.) I accept Beck but now am wondering if there was another named Leigh since several of us had it?

Somebody asked if you had a family Bible or something to show these relationships, I didnt see an answer to that. Perhaps your secondary research is sufficient. Looks like you have good backup.

Dont know why I had Hannah Pickard married to an earlier James.

I have just changed my tree, I hope, to be in line with your evidence. Now I will go pull the census forms you stated and connect them.

I think we have:

First Abercrombies of this line to America (non-royal) as

James Abercrombie m Rebecca Colgan, who moved to PA from Edinburgh Scotland. (Not sure WHEN they immigrated to US from Scotland.)

They had 2 boys: James (1740-1819) and John

James (1740) married (1) Hannah Pickard, Elizabeth Sherrill and then (3)Elizabeth Daniel.

James (1765) married Nancy Crumley and then Mary Ann Beck.

John (Bro of James l740, married Ann Kellett)

I'm sorry. You seem to understand this better than the rest of us. Trying to pull bits of info from different posts can be confusing. Thanks for all of your hard work. I'm going to pull sources.

Are you aware if any of these Abercrombies fought in the Revolutionary War? James 1740 and James 1765 could/should both have been involved in one side or the other. Very few able bodied men did NOT serve.

Thx.
