Alright, I have seen a number of posts saying it both ways, but I do tend to agree with you that Sarah Mitchell was the wife of John Joseph Abercrombie. There seems to have been confusion in this regard for quite some time and no end in sight.
One thing seems clear, for John Abercrombie to have been the father of my documented ancestor, Colvill Abercrombie,Sr. he, John Abercrombie, must have married to someone, possible another Sarah prior to his marriage to Ann Kellett.
Colvill Abercrombie, Sr. is known to have been born 4 Oct. 1762 while John Abercrombie and Ann Kellett married about 1764.
Guess it is possible, albeit highly unlikely, that Colvill Abercrombie, Sr. was born to John Abercrombie and Ann Kellett about two years prior to their marriage?? Then too I've yet to see or hear of anyone with any hard proof that John Abercrombie was the father of Colvill Abercrombie, Sr. However, circumstantial evidence strongly supports that Colvill Abercrombie, Sr. was of the Abercrombie lineage going back to James Alexander Abercrombie and wife Hanna Pickard.
Further, the first son born to my GGG Grandparents, Hiram Sims, Sr. and wife Mary Abercrombie, was named Colvill Alexander Sims. Why would he have that given and middle names other than for his Abercrombie ancestors.
Records prove that Hiram Sims, Sr. was a son of Clayborn Sims, Sr., so we know for sure that Colvill Alexander Sims was not named of his Sims Grandfather. Also, there was no Colvill or Alexander Sims in the Sims ancestry of Colvill Alexander Sims. That is to say there was no Colvill or Alexander Sims going back several documented generations in America. It is amazing to me that the names of parents of Colvill Abercrombie, Sr. remains a mystery although Colvill's name was carried on for a number of generations in the Abercrombie descendants as well as with descendants of relatives, Dial, Sims, etc. Perhaps hidden away in court records or archives and long forgotten there may be some document proving the names of the parents of Colvill Abercrombie, Sr. Can tell you it was several decades before documents were discovered in Louisa County, Virginia Court Records finally proving that William Sims of James City and New Kent Counties, Virginia was the progenitor of the Sims descendants in America from which I'm one of thousands of descendants. I've no doubt there are thousands, even hundreds of thousands of documents stored in unindexed boxes in archives across this great nation. It would probably take a miracle or just plain luck to happen upon a document stored away proving the parents of Colvill Abercrombie, Sr.. It is truly sad that no family Bible seems to have survived listing the names of the parents of Colvill Abercrombie, Sr.
