Hi Todd - I hope you're still at this email! You are partly right, as far as I can see. He was originally John Crombie, from Perth, who married Margaret McKellar in Glasgow (Paisley?) on 17 May 1824. He changed his name to Abercrombie and went to live in Bradford in the 1830s, where he became a grocer. I belive he probably returned to Scotland and his name reverted to Crombie. His parents were Nicol Crombie (21 Feb 1742-27 Mar 1828) and Euphan Scott (4 Dec 1757-15 Apr 1831).
