I am not sure if this is the Ulysses Grant Abell you are looking for, but here goes. Robert Banister Abell, born at Swanton, VT. in 1822; died at San Diego, CA, on Easter Sunday April 1911, aged 89 years. His wife was buried in San Diego about 1900. Refers in a letter to his grandmother who had a remarkable memory, but died while he was too young to remember much family history. His father was a man of few words. His mother was left an orphan when an infant and raised by Mr. Fuller of St. Albans, Vt. She died in 1831. He removed to San Diego, CA in 1882 and followed farming successfully, residing also at Escondido and other points and a few years with a granddaughter at Oregon City, OR; returned to San Diego about 1909. He kept up an active correspondence with many members and friends of the Abell families until a few months before his death. Children: Ulysses Grant, and 8 others, but two or three survived in 1909, the youngest dying in infancy.
Robert Bannister Abell's father was Asa Abell, born June 19, 1787 at Goshen, MA. Asa Abell's father was Benjamin Abell, born September 8, 1757 at Rehoboth, MA. Benjamin Abell's father was Joshua Abell, born at Rehoboth, MA, July 16, 1731. Joshua Abell's father was Joshua Abell, born at Rehoboth, MA, June 8, 1695. Joshua Abell's father was Lieut. Preserved Abell, born in 1644 in Rehoboth, MA. Preserved Abell's father was Robert Abell, born in England and was the first Abell emmigrant to America. This reference comes from "The Abell Family in America" by H. A. and L.P. Abell.
