The first Abells left Maryland for Kentucky right after the Revolutionary war with the 200 members of the Maryland Company.

That Captain Robert Abell was the first MD Abell ancestor is in question. There is no definite proof and one researcher, William Russell Abell, has written an argument for Richard Abell as the first MD Abell ancestor. I believe Russ' thesis.
