Experience tracing the Maryland Abell family suggests to me that you and your ancestors may be descended from the Mass. branch, starting at Rehoboth. One reference would be the book:

Abell, Horace A. and Lewis P. Abell. The Abell
Family in America: Robert Abell of Rehoboth,
Mass., His English Ancestry and His
Descendants. Rutland, Vermont: Tuttle, 1940.
