Hi, I can trace the Abell family on my side back to late 18th century. Before 1780 is not too clear, but I have not really tried. In the early 19th century, my family was based in Duffield, Derbyshire U.K. - and the family name was Ingestre (as in Ingestre Hall near Derby). In fact one of my names is Ingestre after the old family home.

As a point of interest, Derby is only about 20 miles from Nottingham, and is the next major town. My father is 76 years old, and extracting info on our family is proving hard work!! Fortunately, he has a family bible dating back to 1780, which kept a record until about 1850. Trying to get father to fill in the rest is proving difficult! My Great Grandfather was a Blacksmith in Duffield,. and my Grandfather a Dentist in Ipswich U.K.

I hope that this info is of use,

Sara Penelope Ingestre Cleaver (nee Abell)
