"The Abell Index" records an Ignatius Abell, b. 1822 in KY, d. 1907, married to Elizabeth Ann Thomas in 1846. They had 9 children, among them a John H. Abell, b. 1849. Ignatius was the son of Joseph Abner Abell, b. 1795 in MD, and Martha Nancy Mills, b. 1819. Joseph died in Washington County, KY, 1863, and is buried at Calvary in Marion County, KY. Joseph is the son of Joseph Abner Abell, Sr., b. 1759 in MD. Joseph, Sr., is the son of Samuel Abell III, b. 1719 in MD, d. 1777. Samuel III is the son of Samuel II; Samuel II is the son of Samuel, the first "proven" MD Abell. See other threads in this forum on the possible father of Samuel. I believe he was Richard, not Captain Robert.
