Betty....Found some info on your Abel family.

The volunteer who sent me this said all Alf's family members were listed (see census info below):

Border Crossings: Canada to US - 1895-1956:

Alf Abel, arrived Jul 15 1923, age 30, b abt 1893 Norway, Male, on the ship Montclare , arrived in Quebec from Liverpool, a Bookkeeper, issue in Ballangin i Ermus Hervel Norway, nearest relative mother, Anna Nilson, of Firmarken Norway, going to Kent Washington.

I found this picture of the ship (I am just assuming it is the same one they came to Canada on):

Sophie Abel, daughter, 12, b. Norway
Arild Abel, son, 11, b. Norway
Irene Abel, daughter, 9, b. Norway

This is from the Social Security Death Index. Perhaps your Alf.

Name Birth Death Last Residence Last Benefit SSN Issued

ALF ABEL 20 Dec 1892 Dec 1966 98101 (Seattle, King, WA) (none specified) 535-03-8796 Washington

From your post, this must be your Edel. I attempted to obtain her DAY of death, but had no luck.

EDEL ABEL 28 Jun 1889 Nov 1972 99901 (Ketchikan, Ketchikan Gateway, AK) (none specified) 574-10-6104 Alaska

Scroll down on this site and you will find a list of volunteers in Alaska. Maybe the one named Helen West can help you find information on the Abel family. Perhaps she can find Edel's obituary without having the DAY of death.

Good luck with your research....Pauline
