At the moment this is the only reference I have that takes my lot across the river. The question is -

Was Thomas born in the Deptford area or did he get married there because it was the bride's home parish?

He was a soldier and the family lived in Worship Street, Shoreditch when his son Thomas James was born in 1814. Thomas James was the first of the Umbrella Makers that I know of.
