Hi Keith: It is interesting to not that you trace your ancestors to 1600 Scotland. I suspect that my ancestors may have been Ulster Scot (Scots-Irish)who went to Ireland from Scotland. My ggf, James M. Abel was born in Abbeville, Co., South Carolina in 1797. Family legend says that his father was a Moses Abel who married a girl in Ireland before coming to America. My folks were not traditionally Roman Catholic so don't bel;eive they were originally from Ireland. I do not find a Moses Abel in South Carolina prior to 1800 but I do find a Joseph, John and William Abel in 96 District South Carolina as early as 1760. John and Joseph served in loyalist militia in Rev. War. Do you think there may be some connection with your Scots Abel folks? Thanks Ernie Abel Notify Administrator about this message?
