Hi Lesley, this is really interesting to me. My great grandparents were:

Emma Becham(?) & Jacob Abbs (who apparently owned or managed nursuries around the city) who had 5(?) children -

Ellen May Abbs, born Norwich on May 4, 1881 (my grandmother)
Alice Kate Abbs (known as Kate)(physically handicapped)
Harry Abbs
Frank Abbs
Minnie Abbs (the only one to stay in England - the rest went to Saskatchewan, Canada in 1912)

Ellen May Abbs (Wilson) met (in Victoria, BC in the 1930's)with her uncle William Abbs who was married to a widow with a son from California. Apparently he was a black sheep of the family & said he wanted his money to go to family (never materialized of course).

I wonder if this could be the son William Abbs in the census?

Thanks very much,
Shirley Martin (nee Gosling)
