I know this post is very old, but I'm responding anyway. I am interested in your Ronald Abbs--my husband's father was Ronald Abbs, and he served in WWII, but not in the RAF. I do not believe he was ever in Canada, but he made a career of the army and traveled all over the world from Germany to Singapore. He married a German woman shortly after WWII.
The Abbs family is originally from Durham, maybe Tyne and Wear. Do you think there is a connection?
