If you are still checking this thread, I have lots of information on this Abbs family, as I am researching this line. This family started-out in Runton (near Cromer) but moved to Co. Durham in the 1870s. Alfred was born about 1884 in Langley Park, Durham and his sister Martha Edith Abbs was born in Esh, Durham in 1886. Their mother's (also named Martha) maiden name was Ramsay. Their father was James Long Abbs, whose parentage Bekki described correctly. I can provide lots more information if you are interested.
