Alexander and Nannie Abbott were my great-grandparents, and I hope this old newspaper obituary will be useful in researching the Abbott family in West Virginia. The obituary came from my grandmother's scrapbook (Elsie Noble Abbott) who married Frank Abbott, Nannie & Alexander's son. Frank Abbott died in 1962 and is buried at Monticello Memorial Gardens cemetary in Charlottesville Va. My grandmother died on November 25, 1975 and is also buried in the same cemetary, along with other Abbott & extended family members. ******************************************************** Mrs. Nannie Abbott, wife of L.A. Abbott (Lewis Alexander) answered the summons which came on Thursday morning, January the 4th, and passed out from her bed of suffering to enter the joys of her Lord (Several lines missing, torn and unreadable).....She expressed her readiness and willingness to go and although she will be sadly missed our loss is her eternal gain; she was born in Summers County on April 28th, (? date)....She was married to Alexander Abbott on October 25th, 1882. To this union were born six children, two having died in infancy. Mrs. Abbott is survived by her husband, three daughters, and one son; viz Mrs. Pione Martin of Pipestem, Mrs. Arthur Barton of Bertha, Mrs. Claude Holdren of Pipestem, and Mr. Frank Abbott of Diana Mills, Va (my grandfather). She was a member of the regular Baptist church, having professed faith in Christ, and joined about the year 1906. She was a good neighbor, a steadfast friend, and an affectionate wife and mother. ********************************************************** Mrs. Ida Farley wrote the obituary, along with several paragraphs of religious-oriented poetry at the end. I also have the original newspaper obituary of her sister, Sadie Abbott Holdren, which I'll be glad to share if anyone's interested. Notify Administrator about this message?
