The descendants of James Hiel (or Hial) Abbott and Jane Mill Key began holding Re-unions in 1982. Our reunions consist of a Sunday Dinner meeting the day before Labor Day, where we can catch up on news and discuss the progress on our genealogical research, and a Labor Day Picnic. All descendants James Hiel Abbott and Jane Mill Key are welcome as are the descendants of James Hiel's brother, John Abbott, and his sister, Cynthia Ascenith Abbott-Key.
Our Sunday Dinner meetings have been held mainly in Cullman and Jasper Alabama.
For this year's reunion (2007) we have reserved St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Cullman.
The Sunday Reunion Dinner will be on Sept. 2 and begin at:
4:00pm-5:00pm - Forum on genealogical research: This will be the opportunity for detailed presentation and discussion of new research results and genealogical tools. Those who have major new developments to share with the family are asked to also provide a brief summary during the business meeting.
5:00-5:30pm - Socializing
5:30pm - Dinner
6:15pm - Business meeting, elections and so forth.
For the Labor Day Picnic, Sept. 3, we have reserved Shed 5 at Sportsman's Lake in Cullman again this year. It is far enough from the rides to be private yet affords plenty of parking space. We plan to gather at the picnic area around 11:00 and to have lunch about noon.
