Jim,
John Ezekiel Abbett was born 1835, probably in Pike Co., Ga. He was the son of Thomas J. Abbett, b 1804, probably in Ga., and Mary Jane Carden. John married Mary Elizabeth Shockley on 4-18-1863, in Pike Co. He joined Co. G, 6th Alabama Infantry and was captured at Gettysburg 7-4-1863. He was released five days later and took "French Leave" and went home to recoup from dysentry. He rejoined Co. H, 8th Cavalry, at Marietta, Ga., 6-12-1864. He was captured again 9-6-1864, at Wheeler's Raid, Woodbury, Tenn. He was released from Camp Chase, Ohio, 6-14-1865. He returned to Tallapoosa Co., where he an Mary raised ten children.
It is very possible that these two men were related, maybe even brothers.
Let me know what you think.
Billie
