I have an Eliza A'Bare (A'Bear) in my tree. She was born in French part of Canada, Sept 30, 1811.She married John Kelso Bidlack in Cayuga County, New York in 1839.They moved to Van Buren County, Michigan in 1850.
I have not been able to find any of her family members.Although the records where her name is written show A'Bear and A'Bare, I suspect that it might have started as Abert, which said the French way would sound like Abear, or Herbert, which I'm told could sound like Abarr.
I'm big into DNA genealogy now because it helps with connections that are difficult or impossible to find with written records. You might be interested in this.If so, let me know.I just started a Family Finder project. It's not a making making project, I just volunteered to be a project administrator.I figure the more of us who are tested, the more likely we are to find long lost cousins.I already found a 4th cousin and 10, 5th cousins.
Best regards,
Lynnette
