Hi Chris,
I have come across some information that you might find interesting. John Philyaw married Easter (Ester) Large and they had four children. Joseph, Thomas Leroy, Elizabeth ( 17 Jul 1797) and Artilissa (abt 1794)
You can review the information on Genforum.genealogy.com, enter the surname Phylyaw or Filyaw. There is a reference to the Filyaw Bible. I have sent an email to the sources for more information.
I also spoke to a distant cousin who has a story which says the John Phylyaw was and Cherokee Indian Chief and he purchased his wife Easter for a bag of gold. This sounds like the story you told me about. She has a huge book of AAron genealogy that her great aunt put together over a course of years. The book is dated 1970.
