John Dale of Roane Co. TN, 1886
Maryville Times, (Blount Co. TN) Wednesday, December 15, 1886:
"On Monday last John Dale (colored), one of the top fillers at the furnace, while greasing the pulley of the hoisting engine, fell a distance of about seventy feet, breaking his neck and otherwise mangling his body, from which death at once was the result. He was one of the oldest and best hands employed by the Roane Iron Company, having worked for them about fifteen years. Dale leaves a wife and seven children. From what we can learn there is no one responsible, as it was purely an accident. The body was buried at Odd Fellows on Tuesday last, of which order he was a bright member." ---Rockwood Times.
