She is listed by her married name of "Mary Dunly" in the 1880 US Cenus for Ten Mile Township, Harrison County, West Virginia. It is on page 342B. The National Archives film number is T9-1404 and the Mormon film number is 1255404.
Ten Mile Township is just to the west of Clarksburg. Some close neighbors are listed as "works for RR."
Her husband is listed as "Jeramiah Dunly", White, age
55, born in Ireland, and disabled. (Later, in Pennsylvania,
he spelled his surname as "Dunlay.")
His wife Mary Dunly is listed as White, age 50, keeps house, and born in Ireland. However, if she was pretending to be Irish when she was not, she or whomever the enumerator interviewed, could have lied and said she was from Ireland. By family lore, she was "from Warren County,
VA" and with the maiden name of "Mary Conway."
Their children, all single, are listed like this:
Ellen DUNLY, 23, born in Virginia and "at home".
Catharine DUNLY, 21, VA, At Home (She is my maternal grandfather's mother.)
David DUNLY, 20, VA, Watchman RR
John DUNLY, 18, VA, At Home
Mary A. DUNLY, 16, VA, At Home
Patrick DUNLY, 13, W VA, At Home
Michael DUNLY, 13, W VA, At Home
James DUNLY, 10, W VA, At Home
William DUNLY, 8, W VA
Francis DUNLY, 4, W VA
