Funeral services for James Matthew Casey were held from the Rocky Grove M. B. Church near Bexar, Ala., on August 22, 1956. “Matthew” as he was known to both white and colored citizens, died August 18 at his home in Fulton. He died in his sleep while resting in a chair on his front porch. His death was attributed to a heart attack. He was 75 years old. Born in Bexar, Ala., he had lived in Fulton for 31 years, and had done public work. He had worked at one time or another for practically every family in Fulton. The deceased was a member of the St. Matthews M. B. Church of Fulton for 30 years. The J. W. Porter Funeral Home of Tupelo was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included his wife, Ollie Casey; four sons, Corbet of Bexar, Clodia of Champaign, Ill., Clovis and Matthew J., both of Jasper, Ala.; a brother, V. V. Casey of Fitzgerald, Ga.; four sisters, Essie Metcalf of Forrest City, Ark., Louvenia Northington of Hamilton, Ala., Bertha Clifton of Collinsville, Ala., and Izora Metcalf of St. Louis, Mo.; 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
