In North America the war we call the French & Indian War actually began in 1755 ala G. Washington ( Ft. Necessity etc.) England did not officially declare war on France until May of 1756. (I beleive). Hence in Europe you have the Seven years war 1756-1763. In North America you have the French & Indian War 1755 -1763. In North American the war actually lasted more than SEVEN years, so we can't call it the Seven Years War. And if we take into consideration Pontiacs uprising, the war lasted even longer. Which also brings up the point that in North America, someone forgot to tell the Indians that the French had surrendered, and many of the local tribes remained hostile, or still at war with the English & the Colony's.
