I am thinking that you MIGHT have found Wm Green Irby, who was born 30 Dec 1730 in Prince Geo. Co. VA, the illegitimate son of Col. Wm Irby(1710-1774)who was High Sheriff in Halifax Co. VA and a Col. of Militia there shortly before 1774. Col. Wm Irby was the son and grandson of doctors, so what you have found is likely applicable.

Wm Green Irby is known to have d. c. 1806 in Anson Co. NC, but from what I can deduce, he may well have lived in Edgecombe Co. or that vicinity, prob. before 1767. His wife appears to have been a Margaret(probably Margaret Everett or Averitt). One of their daughters was also named Margaret, b.c. 1750 or so, and she married William Coat(e)s. My Coat(e)s line was in Edgecombe Co. and vicinity briefly before showing up in what would become Rowan/Davidson Co. NC.

Any chance you could give me the particulars on that Edgecombe Co. militia unit?
Thanks for your taking the time to check for me.
Regards,
Larry
